Ichsan Zulkarnaen is the Assistant Deputy for Economic Competitiveness Enhancement at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (CMEA) of the Republic of Indonesia. In this role, he focuses on promoting both sectoral and regional economic competitiveness, as well as enhancing ease of doing business. He is also responsible for coordinating multiple government institutions to formulate, implement, and evaluate risk-based licensing policies, as mandated by Indonesia’s Omnibus Law on Job Creation. Before joining CMEA in 2019, Ichsan built his career as a public servant at the Ministry of National Development Planning Agency, where he held several key positions, including Deputy Director for Balance of Payment. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Parahyangan Catholic University and went on to obtain a Master of Science from Northeastern University in Boston, United States of America. He continued his education by completing a doctoral degree in politics and economics at Claremont Graduate University, California.
